| Comments : | Michael Barrett had this car for over 10 years and was last mot'd in August 2011. Where it had done 83,490 miles. To this day it has still the same mileage as it was not driven from mot station. Was transported back to Michael's yard where it has remained. From new to 1989 it had done 76.746 miles as from an old MOT. So from 1989 to 2019, 30 years it's done 6,744 miles. When Michael brought this car it had been garaged not in use for over 15 years. It was a project that has basically stopped. The car is complete as you can see in pictures, and comes with keys for both ignition and glove box. Minimal paperwork other than 2 previous MOT's and a original handbook. The car starts and runs with the key, but the earth wires or starter may need looking at as today it was just clicking. But has been running fine in the last few weeks. The car had 3 small welded plates on floor last month and has been fully undersealed. The metal wheels have been sandblasted and primed too. The car itself looks a bit rough but nearly all is surface marks and flaky paint where someone tried painting the lower doors etc in cream to look two tone. The car is solid throughout apart from a small amount of rust on one of the side steps. And some small dents below the handle of the bonnet. Mileage: 84,490 Currently for sale on EBay |

| Comments : | Currently For Sale on EBay This is my Vw Beetle, 38 years old ! . I bought it some time ago , It was in a salvage yard ready to be broken for spares ! . All the welding has been done , to a high standard by a well known local VW specialist . It is very original ,I have the original Keys . it came of the road september 1988 and i was told it had sat in a garage all that time . New parts included are , front calipers , rear brakes , genuine headlamps ,running boards (German ) , top mounts , etc . The interior is outstanding , with no rips or or defects . the door cards are perfect never been cut for door speakers . the rear shelf has some discolouring due to sun light . The engine is original but out of the car and is stripped as there was no compression on 1 and 2. |

| Comments : | I have recently found your site featuring 'big' beetles and wondering if you would be interested to hear about mine, which I eventually had to scrap. I have been interested in beetles since I was a child, and when I was fourteen my father deceided to buy an old beetle which needed work. It was a silver '74 1303s with black stripes, GT wheels, blue cord interior and wood effect dashboard which we found sitting in a barn in Norfolk. The car was taken home on a trailer and spent the next year sitting in our garage until my dad needed the money and he sold it to our nearest Beetle garage. I was heartbroken. Several years later, aged 19, I was driving my first car (an '85 polo) back from work when I saw it coming the other way. After a quick u-turn I managed to find it again in Sainsburys car park. I waited for about 45 minutes while the owner did his shopping and gave him my number and said if he ever wanted to sell it to give me a call. A few months I received a call from the owner who said he wanted to sell it as the MOT was running out. I bought it straight away and took it home only for it fail the MOT spectacularly, mostly on body corrosion. I spent the next year trying to find a garage who was willing to fix it but was told numerous times that it was too far gone. My last chance was my dad's mechanic who said if I bought him a new welder he would sort out the bodywork. He made a start but also had to admit defeat. I deceided the best thing to do was buy a better car and transfer the parts, so in 2001 I bought an '73 1303 which was rough but serviceable. I scrapped the 'big' beetle and used as many of the parts I could, including the bonnet, spare wheel, wing mirrors, bumpers, carpet, silver edged horn push and wood effect dash. Unfortunately the beetle I had bought had US highback seats which were safer and smarter than the faded blue seats so they were scrapped with the car as I had nowhere to store them. Purchased from Contim Motors (Hillingdon), Hayes, Middlesex on the 25/6/74. The earliest paperwork I have for it is from November 1982 from Norwich Volkswagen dealership Robinsons. |

Update 12-04-2012: As of today i know own what i believe to be a big beetle. it is in poor condition but as i restore beetles as a hobby/ semi professionally this is my next project. - paid £500 for it with a restored chassis/floor pans and lowered springs/ shocks and neoprene new bushes and brakes all round [ oh and 4 off 7x15 inch porsche cookie cutters with excellent perelli p4000's tyres prob worth £250 in thier own right] I have just finished a MAJOR (£8k in parts alone) restro on a 68 1500 beetle ( one of the first 1500's) for a customer so i think this one is a slightly easier task - just new heater channels and two new front 1/4's, a front valence and o/s rear inner wing chassis mount panel - oh and a secondhand front scuttle in front of the windscreen - usual re paint and a re trim out.. !!! engine to be detailed with the usual blasted and powder coated tin, along with those lovely wheels too - same process. - should be fun |

| Comments : | VW Big Beetle Home History In 1990 I was on the lookout for my first car. I had for many years wanted a VW Beetle. I spotted one in the paper for £200 and went to have a look at it. It was a 1970 1200 that had been fitted with a 1300 engine. It was on it's last legs. The owner said the only way to get it to start was to pour a little petrol down the carb first. I decided to give it a miss. A few weeks later after no success in finding a cheap reasonable Beetle my Dad and I decided to go to the local car dealer to look at some 'modern' cars, i.e. Ford Escorts and the like. To my suprise, hidden round the back of the garage was a silver 1303S. Straight away I was hooked although at £1500 is was well out of my budget. The test drive was interesting. The garage owner kept selecting reverse when we were travelling forward (later found to be a wrongly aligned gear lever base plate). This hadn't put me off and I decided I had to have it. The garage owner said that a girl was ready to buy it but couldn't get the cash. My parents kindly borrowed the money for me and I paid them back each week over a few years. First thing I did was to get it up on the ramps. After much prodding and poking it was apparent that the heater channels were on their way out. I bit the bullet and decided to do a full restoration. Seventeen years later, I still own my Big Beetle. It is now parked up at my parents ready for it's second restoration. My daily driver is now a Silver VW Polo due to the distances I have to travel.
